/ATTBay Area AT&T customers have been having issues with dropped calls, and have recorded 1,550 wireless dead zones since September. As a result, AT&T has announced that they will be buying network capacity from Qualcomm Inc. for $1.925 billion.

AT&T explained that the purchase of the 700 MHz band spectrum licenses will aid the wireless carrier in the preparations for 4G broadband services in the future, and considers the bandwidth to be part of its “longer-term 4G network plans.” The bandwidth capacity that the company is buying will cover over 300 million Americans, including those in the Bay Area.
