Getting Ready for the Festive Season

There are so many festive happenings around the Bay area that have been going on and will continue, pretty much until the new year.  Make sure you don’t miss out. Even if you’ve been the Christmas Grinch until now, Zoolights – which opened at the beginning of the month – will be alit until the end of 2017. Some nights (check the calendar) you’ll even be privy to visits from Santa!

If you’re there anyway you can take a ride on the gondola (which is lit up nicely too) and check out the laser light shows while taking in a view of the entire Bay area.  The kids will love the candy cane lane-themed Adventure Landing as well as the Outback Express train.  Don’t worry about the cold weather as you can buy your hot chocolate and s’mores from the Flaming Plaza at the entrance to Oakland Zoo.

For other entertainment, this holiday season’s theatrical performances include all the classics like: “A Christmas Carol,” “Charlie Brown Christmas” and “A Christmas Story: The Musical.” In addition, the Moscow Ballet and San Francisco Ballet will be performing “The Nutcracker”.

And if you’re already saying adieu to Scrooge, then there are still a few  more days (until December 18) to give generously for the Alameda County Community Food Bank.  Go to City Hall, 150 Frank H. Ogawa Plaza; 250 Frank H. Ogawa Plaza; Oakland Police Building, 455 Seventh St.; Eastmont police substation;  5050 Coliseum Way; and 7101 Edgewater, Building 4.
