SF Homeless Shelter

homelessThere is a real problem of homelessness in San Francisco. Now, in an attempt to battle this, city officials are setting up a pilot program known as the “navigation center,” putting the homeless and their pets in what used to be a school building. It will be able to house up to 75 people, and will offer food, showers and social services.

According to Director of the City’s Human Services Agency, Trent Rhorer:

“A lot of these folks have built a community on the street—they don’t want to go into shelters for various reasons. We are trying to address all of those reasons with the navigation center.”

Funds for the center have come from a $3 million anonymous donation; a third of that will be used for the future to lease new housing units for San Franciscan homeless.
