Bookbinding Expert to Lecture in San Francisco

Donald Glasiter, artist and bookbinding expert, will be leading workshops and delivering a lecture at the SF Center for the Book.  The program is being run as a joint venture between the American Academy of Bookbinding and Hand Bookbinders of California.  Glasiter is Director of the Fine Binding Program at the American Academy of Bookbinding.

The first workshop will be held between April 8 and April 12 at 375 Rhode Island.  The title of the event is: Leather Box Making.  While leather boxes are often used for finely-bound books, they can be put to many other uses as well. For example, they can house: portfolios of prints or photographs, manuscripts, valuable ephemera or books that should not be rebound. The boxes are carefully crafted by hand, are elegant and protective.  They also provide a chance for bookbinders to work with objects that are usually not so accessible to them.

The second workshop will take place between April 15 and April 19 at the same location.  It is entitled: Hey, I Have An Idea! Now What? Producing a Design Binding from B to Z.  It is a very personalized class that aims to clarify the process of producing a design binding from when the concept of binding is established to binding completion.

As well, on April 22 between 6 and 8pm, Donald Galsiter will be giving a free lecture on this subject.
