Donald Casper’s Hit-and-Run Driver Spotted on Surveillance Camera

The vehicle that struck and ended the life of San Francisco Republican Donald Casper was recently identified on a surveillance camera at Korbel Champagne Cellars on River Road, according to Officer Jonathan Sloat of the California Highway Patrol.

Casper, the vice president of the San Francisco Civil Service Commission, had been staying at a friend’s for the weekend at a cabin close to the Russian River. Early Sunday evening Casper was hit by a pickup truck during his customary run.

A Dedicated Runner

“He made his evening run without fail,” said Mike Antonini, a fellow member of the Olympic Club. Casper was known as an experienced runner, having participated in nine marathons, including the famous Marine Corps Marathon in Washington.

An Unusual Republican

Casper’s role as a Republican helped support Mayor Willie Brown in his re-election opposite Tom Ammiano. When other Republicans eventually had him removed from the local GOP Central Committee, Casper said “They just don’t get it, the idea that politics is a conversation about finding mutually agreeable positions is beyond them.”

Information about the hit-and-run is still unknown, though investigators have described the vehicle as a white, newer-model Ford F-150 with an extended cab. The CHP estimates that the truck will have some damage to its front right area as a result of the hit.
