Earthquake Hits San Francisco Bay, No Damage Reported

San Francisco Bay experienced a light earthquake this weekend. A small number of fire alarms were set off, but there was no significant damage.

The quake was of a 4.1 magnitude. It occurred along the Calaveras fault, with an epicenter located in the San Felipe Hills, thirteen miles southeast of San Jose.

This fault is one of a few that cross the bay area. These are all capable of causing damaging earthquakes. All are related to the region’s San Andreas fault which lines the border between two of earth’s tectonic plates: the Pacific and the North American plates.
