Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ Jacket Sold for $1.8

Following the second anniversary of Michael Jackson’s death, the red and black calfskin jacket the singer wore in the Thriller video was sold for $1.8 million at an auction in Beverly Hills.

According to Darren Julien, president and chief executive of Julien’s Auctions, the jacket was purchased by a commodities trader from Austin, Texas, named Milton Verret. Some of the money will be donated to the Shambala Preserve, a big cat reservation that now cares for Jackson’s two tigers.

The Thriller video, shot in 1983, features Michael Jackson wearing the jacket in a scene where a group of zombies rise from their graves to participate in a dance routine. Another jacket was worn in the video as well.

This weekend, on July 25th, fans from across the country traveled to the star’s home in Gary, Indiana to honor his memory. According to the Times of Munster, visitors swayed to Jackson’s songs, while poets, local singers and dancer added their own voices as well. Mayor Rudy Clay welcomed all visitors, stating that the city will not stop celebrating the celebrity’s memory.
