Mount Diablo Center Redone

/Mount-DiabloRenovating the visitor center and museum at Mount Diablo, the most visible mountain top in the Bay Area, has changed the atmosphere completely. The renovation was an effort of the state parks system and the Mount Diablo Interpretive Association. Together they worked on the $220,000 project that gave new life to the entire interior of the building. This includes the exhibits, and presents the unusual geology, plants, cultural history and dramatic views from the mountain. Every year hundreds of thousands of people visit this peak which is located east of Walnut Creek.

Roland Gaebert, a state park assistant, stated that “it’s a much warmer and welcoming place. It looked very cluttered before. Now it looks like an interpretive center.” The center now features a fireplace, complete with ceramic logs. The original structure was built in the late 1930s and early 1940s by the Civilian Conservation Corps. The new exhibits are more hands-on, with a model of the topography which lights up at main landmarks when touched.
