The Nissan Leaf Unveiled in San Francisco

Nissan LeafNissan Leaf, the new all-electric car, was just unveiled in San Francisco, after the
delivery of the first vehicle to Olivier Chalouhi in Petaluma. Chalouhi is the first to
order the environmentally-friendly Leaf online, and was personally thanked by the
company and a polar bear.

After picking up his new car at the Nissan dealership in Petaluma, Chalouhi drove
to the city for an event at Civic Center. There he was joined by Carlos Travares, the
Nissan American Chairman; Melanie Nutter of Mayor Gavin Newsom’s office; Jack
Broadbent, the CEO of the Bay Area Air Quality Management District; and Rafael
Reyes of the bay Area Climate Collaboration. A man in a large polar bear suit was
also present, and re-enacted the Leaf commercial in which a polar bear hugs a man in
gratitude.

Rafael Reyes of BACC stated that the event “is a landmark in advancing clean
transportation, not just for the region, but worldwide. The mayors of San Francisco,
Oakland and San Jose set a target to make the Bay Area the EV capitol of the United
States, and that is coming to fruition in large measure because of the extraordinary
collaboration around the region.”
