Project Homeless Connect

Seven years ago, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom launched a project to end chronic homelessness in the city. He created, among other things, Project Homeless Connect, an event in which San Francisco residents can obtain food, housing, medical attention and legal help all in the same place. Since the inception of the project, 40% of the homeless population has been reduced. Dariush Kayhan, the advisor on homeless issues stated that “we still have a long way to go, but we are on the road to achieving the goals we set out 10 years ago.” Over two hundred and sixty cities have adopted the Homeless Connect model.

On Wednesday, thousands of homeless San Franciscans will gather on Grove Street for the 37th event of the program. This will be the last of Newsom’s term.
