There have been some cool San Francisco activities organized for early Christmas by the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park. There was live music, ornament-making and a special Santa Claus visit. Living History players turned the clock back to Christmas 1901 as well to really get guests into the spirit of things. Meet and greet captains, their wives and the crew with the San Francisco lights twinkling in the background. A truly unique holiday experience.
There was also Christmas at Sea 2013 held on the Balclutha, the historic sailing ship berthed at Hyde Street Pier. Festivities began at 3pm with music from the Dogwatch Nautical Band that performed traditional sea chanteys imbued with a holiday twist. For more fun San Francisco activities for all aged kids, the park ranger who read a holiday story and Santa himself was definitely getting into the spirit of things. For $5 entry fee for adults (with kids up to 15 for free) one can gain entry into Eureka, Hercules and CA Thayer. Another fun event was the “Old Time Maritime Christmas.” An annual event held at the Hyde Street Pier this ran from 6-9pm with no entrance fee.
