San Francisco Calls for Free Public Transit for Minors

San Francisco officials have been pressuring the city’s transportation agency to allow minors to ride the public transit free of charge.

Last Thursday, a Board of Supervisors’ committee put their support behind a measure calling the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, the regional Metropolitan Transportation Commission and the San Francisco Unified School District to provide backing for the program, which would cost at least $5.8 million per year.

According to Supervisor David Campos, the measure’s chief sponsor, the free public transit would be significant help to families with monetary issues.

However, according to City Transportation chief Ed Reiskin, the Municipal Transportation Agency cannot afford such a project.
