Solutions for Migraine Headaches

For those who suffer from chronic migraine headaches, there is nothing more debilitating or frustrating.  Many people who get chronic migraines have tried all of the suggested solutions.  They’ve changed their diets, they’ve started to get more sleep, they’ve avoided certain situations and locations, and more.

If the pain persists, it’s time to see a doctor.  Doctors like Dr. Yury Koyen, Dr. Seong Kang, and Dr. Harvey Finkelstein deal with chronic pain and see migraine sufferers.  They are able to explore the patient’s issues further, and to offer more suggestions for triggers that might be causing the headaches. Similarly, doctors like Dr. Harvey Finkelstein can prescribe medications that might help to prevent migraines, and to deal with them once they have started.

There are two main types of medications for migraines.  One is used to alleviate the symptoms when the migraines begin, and the other is used as a preventative measure to try to stop a migraine from starting.

There are a number of non-prescription medicines that can help with migraines.  These include aspirin, acetaminophen (ie – Tylenol), ibuprofen, Excedrin Migraine and others.  Ask a doctor about these various medicines and see if he or she recommends a particular one.

Certainly, there are many prescription medicines on the market today as well that can help with migraines.  These include ergotamine, sumatriptan, zolmitriptan, naratriptan, rizatriptan, almotriptan, eletriptan and frovatriptan.

Migraine sufferers don’t need to simply deal with the pain and assume that there is no alternative.  Asking a doctor for assistance and advice, and starting to use either over-the-counter or prescription medicines can put you on the right track towards feeling better.
