Sunset Reservoir Completed in San Francisco

San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsom announced this week that the Sunset Reservoir Solar Project has been completed. The project has nearly 24,000 solar panels, which cover an area the size of twelve football fields. This is now the largest municipal solar installation in California.

Officials have stated that the Sunset Reservoir generates five megawatts of renewable energy, which is more than three times the amount used by the San Francisco government. The energy will be bought by the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission from Recurrent Energy, the company that built, owns and now operates the project. This installation will help the city advance towards its goal; generating all of its energy from renewable sources by 2020.
