Virgin America to Open New Terminal

Virgin America and San Francisco International are opening an environmentally-friendly terminal next year. The $383 million terminal is expected to be complete in the spring, with 640,000 square feet. The terminal is part of the airline’s plans to expand by two thirds next year.

At the new terminal, travelers will be able to refill their water bottles of just have a refreshing drink of water at the “hydration stations.” Other green features include lower-energy ventilation systems, “slow food” vendors which offer locally grown organic ingredients, preferential parking for hybrid cars and skylights in the ticket lobby. Other “virgin features” will be added as well, such as LED ticket counters that change color based on the lighting outside. The gates will also be more like living rooms, with laptop outlets, elevated work counters and free WiFi.
